Abstract

Cancer is a non-communicable disease that causes morbidity and mortality in all regions of the world. Cancer mortality which continues to increase every year is one of the biggest challenges for the world of health. There were 18.1 million new cases of cancer in Indonesia in 2018 with a death rate of 9.6 million cases of cancer deaths. One of the cancer treatments is to use herbal medicine. However, these drugs have toxic side effects if consumed in certain doses and times. In order to minimize the resulting toxic effects and optimize the drug delivery system, in this study a cancer treatment from herbal plants was developed in combination with bovine serum albumin (BSA) nanoparticles and folic acid to increase solubility, bioavailability and hopefully reduce the toxicity effect in cancer therapy and as a alternative combination of cancer treatment in the future. The herbal cancer drug in combination with the nanoparticles Bovine Serum Albumin and Folic Acid has a low toxicity range. The results of the LC50 probit analysis showed that NP-BSA-Oh had a higher concentration (69.23 ppm) compared to As-NP-BSA-Oh (56.56 ppm). Folic acid is able to reduce the toxicity of cancer drugs and can be used as a candidiate drug in cancer therapy.
