Abstract

This research aims: 1) To describe implementation of English songs in teaching listening comprehension for young learners’; 2) To describe the advantages and disadvantages of implementation English songs in teaching listening comprehension for young learners’. This research uses a qualitative approach with the type of field study research. This research data collection method uses two techniques, namely interview and observation. The results of this rosette show: 1) The implementation of english songs in teaching listening comprehension for young learners' is carried out through five stages, namely determining the English song, singing English song, meaning and explanation of vocabularies, re-singing the English song, and evaluating of listening. the English songs used to improve listening comprehension are Are You Sleeping and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Based on the assessment, English song is able to improve the listening ability of young learners. This can be seen from the difference in the results of the observation value of the listening comprehension ability before and after the application of the English song; 2) The advantages of implementing English songs in teaching listening comprehension are: a) Improve listening comprehension ability; b) Increase the sensitivity of hearing young learners'; c) Improve vocabularies; d) Foster the enthusiasm and motivation to learn young learners'; e) The English song learning method provides activity in the classroom, so that young learnees' are not saturated; f) Interaction between teachers and young learners or young learners with young learners; 2) The disadvantage of applying listening comprehension with English songs is: a) The number of young learners's is not serious about following the lessons; b) The number of young learners who joke with their friends; c) The atmosphere of the classroom has become noisy and crowded, so the class is less conducive. Some of the suggestions in this research are for future research, it would be better if the study focused on discussing supporting and inhibiting factors of listening comprehension using English songs. Further research could also use quantitative research to test how effective English songs are to improve the listening comprehension ability of young learners.
