Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the types of behaviorism approach and how the behaviorism approach is applied through the main character in the film "Freedom Writers" to improve students' writing skills. The aims of this study are: 1) To identify the types of behaviorism approach used by the main character in the film "Freedom Writer" 2) To determine the application of the behaviorism approach presented in the film to improve students' English writing skills. Qualitative descriptive is the research method used in this study. The data is taken from the movie script and scenes from the movie “Freedom Writer” by recording the movie scenes. The collected data is analyzed through 4 stages namely, Identifying, Classing, Displaying, Concluding. The results of this study found 2 types of behaviorism approaches applied in this film to improve students' English writing skills, namely: 1) Radical behaviorism 2) Methodological behaviorism. The implementation of the behaviorism approach in this film is presented in the form of words through the script and film scenes. The behaviorism approach can improve students' English writing skills and it is recommended for English teachers to apply this approach to improve students' English writing skills.
