Abstract
Degenerative processes in the elderly cause a decrease in physical, psychological and social conditions. Hypertension is a disease that has a very close relationship with the elderly. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of autogenic relaxation and sandalwood aromatherapy on blood pressure in patients with hypertension. This research is a pre experimental design, with one group pre test and post test design methods. The population in this study were all elderly who suffer from hypertension totaling 70 people, with a sample of 60 respondents using simple random sampling. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed that prior to the intervention the majority (53.3%) had blood pressure in the level of hypertension category 1 namely 140-159 / 90-99 mmHg and after being given the intervention showed that almost all (76.7%) had blood pressure in the normal category of 120-129 / 80-84 mmHg. Wilcoxon test results with a significance of p = <0.05, there is an autogenic effect of relaxation and sandalwood aromatherapy on blood pressure which is significant between pre and post with a value of p = 0,000.
