Abstract
Writing is one of English skills that is very essential to master. It is also related to
the other English skills such as listening, speaking, and reading because they are all
interrelated. However, writing is the most difficult skill of English because of its
complexity which involves many other aspects of language such as grammar,
vocabulary, conception, and rhetoric. This complexity makes English learners
especially English as foreign language learners feel even more difficult to develop
their writing skill. As this difficulty, no wonder if there are many learners who make
errors when they are learning English writing. Based on the problems above, this
study will be conducted to analyse the students' difficulty when they write an
English text. The objectives of this study are: (1) To find out the grammatical errors
made by the students in writing recount text, (2) To find out the types of error made
by the students' recount text. This study is qualitative research and the sample of this
study is 14 students of twelfth grade of senior high school.
